Tublatanka

Tublatanka

Description:

Tublatanka is a Slovak rock band founded in 1982 by Martin Ďurinda (guitar) and Juraj Černý (drums).

The name of the group comes from the book by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan. Its basis is the name of Tarzan's adoptive ape father, the evil ape named Tublat, with a suffix inspired by the then very popular brass band Moravanka (brass band = genre of Czech and Moravian folk music). The suffix appeared in the original name Tublat first due to a joke by the friends of the founding members, but later it remained in the name. The alleged folk character and pride in their Slovak nationality were previously emphasized by costumes, which were dotted Slovak folk costumes. The band used them in their performances during the first approximately ten years of their career.
